101 update

It's been nearly two months since I started this "101 things to do in 1001 days" project, so I thought it would be appropriate to give an actual update on what has been done and how awesome it was. With a preview of adventures to come.

5. Learn 50 new recipes:

On this, I only have 3 done, those being:

Lime Meltaways
Naan
Curry

The lime cookies were interesting... but I think they were good? I might have to make them a couple more times to have a firm opinion of them. The naan was interesting also. I might have to have naan a bit more before I do further experimentation in that realm. Also, the curry was pretty good.

7. Go to 20 new restaurants

Bonefish grill- was really good! I went when I went to Michigan and it was good! All seafood... and I love seafood. The end.

Provo Bakery- I'm counting it. Orange rolls= good, cookie=good, cinnamon roll= good.

Chinatown- Approved.

Rooster- It was good. I can't see this being my first choice or idea, but it was fun. Fried dumplings and boba.

Tommy's burgers- had this in California. In summation: chili. It was kind of intense. And chili is not my favorite. Not that I dislike it, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

Del Taco- Don't shoot me. Anyway, 3 tacos for a dollar is a pretty awesome price.

Ripple's- The drive in where "The Phone call" was filmed.

Spoon it up- Yes, it's frozen yogurt, but I'm counting it. It was good frozen yogurt, and you pay by the ounce, so you can choose exactly how much and what you want. It's pretty sweet.

10. 50 movies

1. Harold and Maude- It's wonderfully full of morbid humor. Don't judge, but it's amazing how funny it can be for a guy to randomly pretend to commit suicide.
2. Sahara
3. Back to the Future I- I liked it a LOT more than I thought I would. Also, watching it this past weekend came in handy when it started being quoted to me at work. In conclusion= it's good. I promise. And I'm looking forward to the next two.

15- Concerts-Ben Folds with the Utah Symphony
It was pretty spectacular. Ben Folds is pretty spectacular.

16. Learn how to decorate cakes
-I took Wilton's Course 1 this July. Details to follow in a later post. Promise.

23. Listen to a new artist every month-

I'm being pretty flexible with this one. Depending on the artist, they get anywhere from 2 weeks to a little over a month. I've listened to They Might be Giants (I like a good portion of it them... not everything, but a good portion of it. The sun is a mass...), Ben Folds, and currently Hot Hot Heat.

31. Visit 5 new places
1. St. Anthony, ID for Shelley and Jason's reception
2. L.A.
3. Zion National Park

46. Camp:

This is happening TOMORROW. Also, Redfish is going to be my number 4 on the previously stated goal.

56. Read 50 books:
Brisingr
Ender's Game
Speaker for the Dead
Xenocide

Please read them. Brisingr, however, needs follow the prior two books.

61. Have a flour war:
We had a ward activity doing this. If you have never had one, please have one. Now. And invite me.

71. Learn the electric slide.

Done and done.

72. Dance in the Rain

The best part about completing this one is that I completed it without even realizing it was on my list. Dance parties in the pouring rain= epic. And wet.

89. Run through lavender
Check.

90. Watch a new movie for every letter of the alphabet (not overlapping with 50 list earlier)

A- The A-Team
B- Better off Dead
C- Corpse Bride
D- District 9
H- How to Train Your Dragon
I- The Importance of being Earnest
K- Kal Ho Naa Ho
R- Return to Snowy River
S- Son of Rambow
T- Toy Story 3

92. Make a mobile herb garden
The cilantro was lovely. Also, we have a nice variety of herbs on our window sill now.

96. See a movie in 3-D
Done! Saw Toy Story. Yes, I realize I counted this in the alphabet goal. Something may have to be adjusted here.

99. Climb a tree
I'm currently counting it, although I have a feeling I might be sent up the tree with the purpose of going halfway again in order for it to be approved by the panel of my peers. Or peer. You know who you are.

In conlusion: I think this whole thing is going fairly smoothly. Also, if you have any book, restaraunt, movie, or music artist suggestions, feel free to let me know. I'll be pretty grateful.

Lavender!

So, I ran a 5K through lavender. It was pretty awesome. We got awesome swag bags (which included lavender oil and fantastic water bottles... as well as a rather disgusting apricot bar). The race involved waking up waaay too early, hurt feet, the threat of rain, and gravel. However, it involved lavender. And running in the morning. In conclusion: it was lovely. I didn't do as well as I should have, but I had fun and enjoyed the experience. Besides, what's the point of running through flowers if you can't enjoy them?

I'm looking forward to the next 5K we have planned: SoJo 5K (in South Jordan) that starts up by the Kennecott copper mine and is downhill from there. Goal: do well.

Also, I need to find a half marathon and start training for it. Gulp.

"Explosions in the Sky is epic multipurpose music."

I bought a casserole dish. At IKEA. This was probably one of my more random, simple items on my list. However, this doesn't mean it was not necessary. It was very necessary. Two of my favorite foods to make (homemade mac & cheese and shepherd's pie) both require it. Plus, it's a pretty handy multipurpose baking dish. And I fully approve of things that are multipurpose and baking related. Like wooden spoons. And chocolate chips.

Also, I went up to Idaho for my old roommate's wedding! Or at least her reception. This led to my first experiences in the towns of Rexburg and St. Anthony in Idaho. Check one place off my "5 new places on my 101" And I must say, I'm actually grateful I'm living in Utah right now. However, the trip in general was an awesome one with awesome people, seeing other awesome people do awesome things. Plus, Shelley and Jason are a pretty fantastic couple.

Of trees... and heights

Confession: Heights and I have an interesting friendship. As in, we don't. As many of my coworkers (as well as the numerous bruises, rug burns, and 5 current cuts currently on my body) can testify, I get in more than enough trouble with my feet planted on the ground. I've been known to fall down stairs, drop shelves on my head, end up bleeding from simple, mundane tasks... etc. However, despite that, I try my battle with heights. However, I still need to work on getting past that nervousness. At least in situations where my only source of security lies in foot placement, hand holding, and my own balance and coordination. Other than that, I'm fine. Roller coasters, rope courses, rock walls, elevators, airplanes... all fine and dandy. Trees? I'm working on it.

Which brings me to my next point. So, accompanied by two of my friends, I went to Kiwanis park with this goal in mind: climb a tree. My goal was not to the top, just as much up as I could. So I did. Hung out a little bit, then went a little higher. Then got semi-stuck. By this I mean, if I had felt up to it, I could have just done a bit of rearranging and gone higher. Meanwhile, the other two went up to the top. Not me. Not this time. This is not to say that that isn't a possibility for a later point in time, but for now, that was enough. However, I will go back for more and master that tree. In the meantime: I climbed a tree! Not to the top, but that was not my goal. The end.

Let the games begin...

So, to commence this hefty goal of 101 in 1001...

I learned the Electric Slide on Saturday!

It really wasn't hard, but due to awkwardly not being in gym class and varying schedule conflicts which denied me the opportunity to learn a basic human skill.... it was a necessary task. But now I can do the Electric Slide!

I signed up for a cake decorating class!
The last 4 Thursdays in July! It's the Level 1 class, and I'm hoping it will be awesome! If anyone wants to join me, they're more than welcome. There are only 2 spots left as of this afternoon....

I'm giving a presentation tomorrow? No, that's not like publishing... but it's lab related. Not that I know if "Publish" will be fulfilled by lab work (although that would be awesome)... maybe I just need to learn how to complain obnoxiously for the Daily Universe.

We planted our herb garden! I'm not sure if I can check that off yet, seeing as nothing has sprouted yet. As soon as I have a good source of growing wonderfulness, it's sure to be checked off.
